Katie and Kolton- Downtown Denver Engagement

Katie and Kolton- Downtown Denver Engagement

Spring winds continue to plague our engagement sessions! Luckily, the area around Little Raven street gave us lots of places to hide. Katie was also smart and wore her hair curly- curls are far more forgiving in the wind than straight and stringy.

Jennifer and Kevin Part 1- Snowmagagementhearsal

Jennifer, Kevin and their families are an unreasonable amount of fun. Normally at a wedding we look for the troublemaker early- it’s self defense- but this group was almost entirely comprised of mischievous, rambunctious, fun-loving troublemakers. Well okay, troublemakers, the women who love them, and Jen’s aunt, who sorta straddles the fence there.

Jennifer and Klint- Engagement Sneak Peek!

Jennifer and Klint- Engagement Sneak Peek!

We met Jennifer, Klint and their sweet dog (Rigsby? Rigs? Wriggles? There were many nicknames!) on a beautiful day downtown last week. Stay tuned for more night shots, a sweet and slightly worried dog, and pictures from the Grand Hyatt’s bar overlooking the whole city.

Klint- my dad knew exactly who you were. What a coincidence that you’ve been existing in parallel water universes!

Flatland- A Wedding, Deconstructed Teaser

Flatland- A Wedding, Deconstructed Teaser

One of the greatest things about my job is when I get to collaborate with others. It’s something I miss from the theatre- the feeling of everyone working together and bringing their particular talents to bear to achieve a common goal. And since so much is dictated from the outside in on a wedding day, working on a test shoot also allows us to pull our collective creativity from the inside out for a change too.

RJ Kern and I had a wonderful time last year working on the Inspired by Light Vintage Shoot, and we were lucky to pull an equally great group together this year. Here’s a teaser Jim Harper put together of the shoot- stay tuned for more, I think you’ll really enjoy it!

Katie & Kolten- Downtown Denver Sneak Peek!

Katie & Kolten- Downtown Denver Sneak Peek!

It was so great to see Katie today and meet her fiance, Kolten! Katie was one of my Commercial Photography students at Cherry Creek’s CTE program- it’s a little surreal to be shooting her engagement pictures now, I tell you what.

Thank you guys for sticking it out through the cold and wind! Kolten, your story of asking Katie out is just hilarious We really do need to do that Forrest Gump shoot- I thought of all kinds of ideas on the way home. It’d be so fun.

Jennifer and Kevin- Sneak Peek!

Much like a mountain that jumps out at you, (ha ha, sneak peak, get it?) we offer this surprise preview of Jennifer and Kevin’s Estes Park wedding. It’s doubly surprising because the wind died down long enough that the off-camera flash didn’t blow away!

J&K- I’m having a blast going through your pictures, you guys. I can’t wait to show you the snowball fight shots! Thank you again for a lovely weekend- I’ll never think of “Feliz Navidad” the same way!

Theresa and Jaryd- Intimate Breckenridge Wedding

Theresa and Jaryd- Intimate Breckenridge Wedding

Theresa and Jaryd held a small wedding for their close family and friends at a private home in Breckenridge. I realized this month that we really look forward to intimate weddings. They’re just so much more relaxed, less involved in the hoopla that seems to follow the moment you use the word “wedding,” and they’re so much more flexible. When Theresa and Jaryd’s ceremony ended up shorter and they decided to move the toasts to after dinner, we had a whole additional hour for pictures of just the two of them. This meant we had time to head over to the Ice Castles in Silverthorne. You just can’t plan for something like that on an average wedding day. It created new experiences (some of them less than pleasant, like poor Theresa standing in the granulated ice in her open toed shoes!) and images we couldn’t have possibly gotten anywhere else.

New Website, New Office

New Website, New Office

I know it’s not spring yet. We were photographing yesterday in below freezing temps in an ice castle, so I’m pretty sure we’ve got a ways to go. Still, it’s beginning to feel a little springy around here. The sun has started waking me up before my alarm, so I know we’re coming out of dark, dreary winter. It’s a good time for a change.

Theresa and Jaryd- Nighttime Engagement in Downtown Denver

Theresa and Jaryd- Nighttime Engagement in Downtown Denver

We had our first wedding of the season today! I always get a little jittery about the first wedding, but Theresa and Jaryd were so laid back and game for anything, I needn’t have worried. Here is their nighttime engagement session we shot a couple weeks ago. My favorite moment was when I warned them that they might feel a little awkward for awhile, and Jaryd said, genuinely nonplussed, “Why?” You gotta like a guy with that confidence and openness.

Thank you again guys- thanks for climbing fences and traipsing through ice caves in open toe shoes. I can’t wait to show you the pictures!
