When two families become one, having a family engagement session makes good sense. Our goal and the reason we include engagement sessions with all our wedding packages, is to get to know you before the big day. When there are children who are very involved in the wedding day, we like to get to know them also.

We had this great plan to meet at at park in Castle Rock but then of course that afternoon we got the biggest thunderstorm we’ve had all summer. Plan B…. drive downtown to the Denver Center where we knew we could be outdoors and yet be covered.Fortunately, all the ladies were wearing bright pink which brightened up an otherwise drab day.

Argggg…… they’re KISSING!

We braved the rain and wind for a couple of minutes to get in front of the bright yellow wall. But it was pretty chilly!

Then it really started raining again. Who knew reflectors could be used in place of umbrellas?

Lisel and Dan were married at the Villa Parker in Parker, Colorado and you’ve never seen a prouder dad than Lisel’s! The man beamed from the beginning of the day until they rode off into the night in a horse drawn carriage. This was a family event, including the couples two dogs as attendants. Dogs wearing pearls! How can you not love that?

Parent Dances

A cartoonist was hired to capture all the guests likenesses and their thank you gift. A lot fun for every one and what a special keepsake!

We love a dramatic exit and nothing says drama like 2 ft sparklers!

Monique and Rodney had a lovely and very romantic wedding with services at Our Lady of Mt Carmel Catholic Church in downtown Littleton and reception at the Cherokee Castle.  Their large and very devoted family were so happy to witness these two exchange their vows, it was so touching to watch everyone surround them with so much love and best wishes for their future.

Flower girl and ring barer melt down just a few minutes before the ceremony began. It was as if on cue they both began giving the adults a bit of attitude.

I love this shot of the flower girl being reminded of how important the day was.  She’s so serious listening to him.

and like most 4 year old kids…..  you can only maintain for so long!

On to the Castle and the reception begins….

If you ask really nicely the staff will escort you to the top of the turret where the view of the entire front range is amazing!

Secret…. photographers try really hard to get the veil to blow in the wind like this. We fake it by having one person throw the veil into the air and running out of view of the camera while the photographers shoots FAST. When it happens on it’s own like this we are soooo excited!

Yep – that wind was making magic for us that day!

Jae Hee and Eugene’s day started with photos of the two of them at the beautiful Magnolia Hotel in downtown Denver. They wanted something with a different feel from their engagement photos taken at the Botanic Gardens and because their wedding was going to be held at the Botanic Gardens as well something more sophisticated was in order. Kate Kelly at the Magnolia graciously offered us the use of their building which worked out perfectly.

After photos at the Magnolia we headed over to the Botanic Gardens. We had plenty of time for photos around the grounds before the ceremony began. The entire time keeping an eye on the dark clouds overhead hoping the rain would move on before the ceremony was to begin.

The ceremony began with their mothers lighting the unity candles.

This was the largest piece of cake we’ve ever seen shared – but it made for a wonderful photo!

After dinner Jea Hee and Eugene changed into traditional Korean hanboks for photos. By then the sky provided the most stunning Colorado sunset as our backdrop for the rest of the evening.

Denver Botanic Gardens

Recently two of Kokoro Photography’s events have been picked up by Wedding Blog Sites

The Elegant Owl posted April and Jenson’s vintage picnic engagement session.

and Colorado Wedding Style has posted Cris and Carly’s wedding at the Exdo Events Center.

Both of these events were unique and exciting and we are truly blessed to have these two sites publicize our photography!

I’m in the process of going through photos from Sue and Craig’s wedding last weekends at Devils Thumb Ranch in Winter Park. I wanted to put these on our blog now….  it was such a great moment.

We had finished up shots of Craig and his grooms men, Craig and I decided to walk out to a nearby field with two beautiful horses grazing out in the field. We thought they’d be nice in the background. This beautiful horse (now known as Freckles) decided to join us for a close up. Craig talked with him for a few minutes, we took some close-ups with him and decided to we needed to get moving. But Freckles really liked Craig and followed him out into the field for more photos. Who knew horses were camera hogs!

We met Lisa and Aaron at Hudson Gardens a few days ago. This was the second time we’d tried to get their son Jack’s photos taken. The first time a wind storm screwed up our outdoor location and Jack decided he really didn’t need a nap that day. Tired babies don’t make for great photos. We rescheduled a second day at Hudson Gardens. This time the weather was great and Jack was well rested. An added bonus – with the cooler weather this summer the gardens are stunning.

Lisa and Aaron had worked with Jack to get him to smile for us but Jack is a very inquisitive boy. There was so much going on around him and Jack didn’t miss anything! He’s one smart little guy…. you could just see his mind at work. It wasn’t until the end of our shoot when we found the magic solution. What made Jack smile was to just lay there in the grass…. doesn’t that make everyone smile?

As you can see from Ruxy and Andre’s photos they are an adventuresome couple! Full of fun ideas and willing to do any of the slightly crazy things we asked of them… which was often. They had such a beautiful day and Arrowhead is a stunning place for a ceremony. The ceremony site overlooks the golf course and the amazing red rocks of Colorado’s front range making for a dramatic setting.  Ruxy’s family is from Romania and brought a cultural flair to the event… lots of beautiful singing.

Andre and Ruxy chose to see each other before the ceremony. This was a private moment together before they started their formal photography.
