Jennifer and Jonathan- St. Regis Monarch Beach Wedding

Jennifer and Jonathan- St. Regis Monarch Beach Wedding

When I met Jonathan, I knew he was perfect for Jennifer. Not only do they balance each other well, but they also have the same brand of silliness. This is very important. You can see it in their friends (John had 37 hundred groomsmen, or something like that, and you can only get that many guys to put on plastic tux shoes if they really like you) and the fun things they’d rather do than have a traditional bachelorette party. It’s adorable and perfect, and I was so happy to see that Jen had found someone with the same excitement and zest for life.

Jim and Derek- Engagement Pictures and Ice Cream!

Jim and Derek- Engagement Pictures and Ice Cream!

While working on Jim and Derek’s wedding, it occurred to me that their engagement pictures didn’t get posted while we were working on the website changeover. Here are the photos we took at the Burbank home and at the Griffith Park Observatory. Jim and Derek met while working on America’s Next Top Model, so the Hollywood sign seemed quite appropriate!

Jen and John- Bridal 5K

Jen and John- Bridal 5K

One of the things I love most about Jen is that she’s very clear about who she is. She’s not the kind of girl you hold a traditional bachelorette party for, with all the drinking and cruising from bar to bar. Instead, her maid of honor, Amanda, who knows Jen’s love of running put together a fun 5k run! There were trophies, cowbells, banana costumes, and a finished line made of pink boas. Even the less athletic of the bunch enjoyed a beautiful walk down to the beach and back. Not a bad way to send Jen off to married life!

Elowen! Southeast Kansas Family Photography

Elowen is cute and chubby. She prefers rolling over crawling. She has three hairs, a la Homer Simpson, which you can only see through her baby fuzz in certain light. She has a touch of drama- she’s a very happy kid, she just knows exactly what she wants, and she wants to be tossed in the air, dance to Hey Soul Sister and try to get to the cats and dogs.

Jen and John- St. Regis Monarch Beach Wedding Rehearsal

Jen and John- St. Regis Monarch Beach Wedding Rehearsal

The St. Regis at Monarch Beach outside of Laguna Niguel is just a really terrible place to be married. The view stinks, the buildings are just “meh”, it’s not luxurious or romantic at all. Do you think the Google bots can pick up on sarcasm? In all honesty, I can’t think of a more gorgeous, opulent, romantic location for an afternoon wedding.

Charlee and Brayden- Disneyland Kid Portraits

Charlee and Brayden- Disneyland Kid Portraits

While we were out in California we were lucky to get to meet up with the Rizzo girls- my college roommate, Lisa, her sister, Laura, and Laura’s two kids, Charlee and Brayden (Brayden’s not a girl, but he’s stuck with the Rizzo girls in his babyhood). The Rizzos have year passes to Disneyland, and Charlee actively refers to it as “My Disneyland,” so it seemed the perfect place to take their pictures. Plus, we really couldn’t pass up photos on the carousel…

Flatland: A Wedding Deconstructed

Flatland: A Wedding Deconstructed

Recently, RJ Kern and I got together with a whole host of our friends to put together a test shoot. The idea behind the shoot what a kind of paper doll, Eyewitness Books, ingredients for a wedding style shoot. Everything was on the ground, and we shot from above using a wireless tethering system (see RJ’s post for more about the technical side of this shoot.)

Jessica & Jason- Keystone Area Wedding

Jessica & Jason- Keystone Area Wedding

We just got back from visiting friends in Kansas! Jessica was my closest English-speaking neighbor by car in Japan, and we were roommates here in Colorado before she went east to get her masters degree and find the love of her life. Jessica and Jason were married here in Colorado a couple years ago in an intimate ceremony by Peru Creek outside of Keystone. We helped pull the event together- you should’ve seen the pile of pinwheels at my parents’ house!- and Nicole Iverson of Swank Stems Floral graciously provided the floral. For some reason we never got the pictures up on our blog, so I figured our trip our to see Jess and J was the perfect excuse.

Jen and Jonathan Sneak Peek!

Jen and Jonathan Sneak Peek!

We just got back from Jen and Jonathan’s wedding in Dana Point, just outside of Laguna Niguel in Orange County. It was beautiful and restorative and I hope it was everything they wanted, even with the rain. People dry quickly, but that’s going to be a good story for a long time- and if it’s good luck for rain on your big day, you guys are two lucky, lucky folks!

We’ve started downloading and unpacking. We would love to share a teaser with you guys before we start going through the thousand and thousands of images we captured over the last week. I couldn’t decide on one, so you get two teasers!

Jennifer and Kevin Part 2- Estes Park Wedding

Jennifer and Kevin Part 2- Estes Park Wedding

When we say in our “About Us” section that our couples can’t help but be themselves, I’m a little afraid that people will assume they’re not “weird enough” to be our couples. That’s not it at all- and I think Jen and Kevin are a perfect example of what we really mean. They have a certain comfort in who they are and an appreciation for their identity as a couple.
