The Grant-Humphreys Mansion- Stacey and Jason’s Denver Wedding

Stacey and Jason were married on the 17th down at the Grant-Humphreys Mansion. It’s a beautiful location with lots of history, and we love photographing weddings there! I’m glad that the mayor’s idea to trade the mansion for the mayoral residence, Cableland, was rejected by the state historical board- it’d be a shame to lose such a wonderful wedding venue!

Stacey was positively radiant that day- check out her freeking gorgeous eyes!sjblog1small

Flower Power did an awesome job with their flowers. Big, gorgeous peonies, and the perfect colors for the site!sjblog10small

We managed to catch the sun just as it was setting right before their ceremony.smblogsmalla

It made for  a beautiful candlelit ceremony, but I’m sure glad that it was a nice enough day, even in the middle of January, to get some night pictures with the columns of the mansion.smblog22smblog21sjblog5small

Stacey and Jason finished out their reception with a great band, the Tripping Grizzwolds, who you can hear most every week at various places out in Parker. I’d highly recommend it- they were a blast! I’ve never heard Alanis Morrisette’s “You Outta Know” sung with so much, uh, fervor, let alone sung at a wedding. But as one of the band member’s told us, “the chicks seem to dig it.”smblog23

Hudson Gardens in Littleton – Cristi and Jamie’s Engagement Photos

Cristi and Jamie met us at Hudson Gardens on the morning of the 18th to do their engagement photos. Cristi came prepared with lots of things with bright colors since the gardens are pretty darn brown at the moment. It was a great day for photos. The weather was warm for January, very little breeze which is always a problem in Colorado this time of the year. Cristi and Jamie were great to work with — very easy going, willing to give anything a try. At times I felt like we were intruding on a very personal moment! Take a look for yourself ;-)

Cristi and Jamie will be getting married this May in Erie. We know most of their friends — it’s guaranteed to be a fun time for all!

Brandy and Danny – Engagement shoot in Downtown Denver

Amanda and I met Brandy and Danny in Larimer Square to do their engagement photos. Seems like every time we go there we find more fun places to shoot. This time we found a great wall with an old, worn painted advertisement, an alley with a fun staircase — best of all — the alto restaurant was fabulous! They let us use several areas in their beautiful bar. It was really nice to get out of the cold and into such a colorful, warm place and we can’t tell them enough how much we appreciate them letting us take over their space for a few minutes.

Brand and Danny are getting married at Ten Mile Station in Breckenridge this summer. Doing the more urban, downtown engagement photos will give them a really nice contrast to their mountain wedding photos. We had so much fun wandering around downtown with them. Doing their wedding will be a blast!

Devil’s Thumb Ranch – Anne and Henning’s Winter Wedding

Question: If the couple comes all the way from Germany to get married, can we call it a destination wedding?

Anne, Henning and Henning’s son Leo traveled all the way from Germany for their wedding. Anne grew up in the states and her family has owned a cabin in Winter Park for many years. So when they were deciding where to get married she wanted to share Colorado with her new extended German family. The area is gorgeous. Not just pretty… but the kind of place that takes your breath away. During the winter with all the fresh snow it’s especially stunning. Located in Fraser Colorado, Devil’s Thumb Ranch is a working ranch complete with pastures full of horses, adorable cabins and a rustic but lavish resort with all the comforts. They couldn’t have picked a better place to get married.

Kara and Rami from Pick Me Wedding Coordination did a fabulous job of organizing the event. Not only did everything happen on time (which hardly ever happens) but the decorations and flowers were beautiful. Devil’s Thumb Ranch has a small wedding chapel overlooking the Continental Divide giving Anne and Henning’s guests a stunning view. As the ceremony was happening we could see a family taking a sleigh ride off in the distance. Truly winter in Colorado.

The reception was held in the Broad Axe Barn. Hennings only request for the evening was good food and I’m betting he wasn’t disappointed. The musical entertainment for the evening was the Lonesome Ridge Blue Grass Band giving the German guests a real western experience. The evening was a joyful celebration of two families coming together.

It was -14 degrees at 9:00 Sunday morning — they are darn serious about the “Ice Box” label!

Anne braved it without the coat for a few shots but it was so cold out we didn’t want to freeze her.

The ceremony was read in English and in German so everyone could enjoy the vows.

Meanwhile down in the Wine Cellar…..

there was a proposal in the works.

Sometimes the most unexpected and pleasant surprises happen. While we were photographing Anne and Hennings wedding upstairs at Devils Thumb Ranch, Rami the event coordinator mentioned there was a engagement about to happen downstairs. I asked if she thought the couple might like a few photos of the moment so with a big grin on her face –  off she went to find out. Sure enough, our prospective groom-to-be got a little teary eyed at the thought and happily agreed.

You could tell Jeff had spent a lot of time planning this it be a very special occasion for Stephanie. He’d arranged a private room in the Wine Cellar and a quiet, romantic dinner for two. Being a traditional sort of guy Jeff got down on one knee and asked Stephanie to married him. Stephanie said yes :-)

Yes, mom it’s really happening.
